THE BATTLE OF THE MIND
Winning the Battle Through the Word of God
Introduction
The mind is one of the greatest battlegrounds in spiritual warfare. What we think about can influence what we believe, how we speak, and how we live.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
The enemy wants to influence the mind with fear, doubt, confusion, temptation, lies, and condemnation. But God has given the believer spiritual weapons to stand firm and take every thought captive.
1. The Mind Is a Battlefield
Spiritual battles are not always visible. Many battles begin in the thoughts before they become actions.
“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
We must learn to recognize thoughts that do not agree with God's Word and refuse to allow them to control our lives.
2. Renew Your Mind
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
God changes our lives as our minds are renewed by His Word. We cannot continually fill our minds with darkness and expect to walk consistently in the light.
3. Take Every Thought Captive
Not every thought that enters our minds deserves to remain there. We must examine our thoughts according to Scripture.
“Bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
When a thought produces fear, hatred, temptation, unbelief, or condemnation, compare it with the truth of God's Word.
4. Fill Your Mind With God's Word
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
The best way to fight wrong thoughts is to replace them with the truth of Scripture.
5. Victory Through Christ
The battle of the mind does not have to control the believer. Through Jesus Christ, we can walk in freedom, truth, peace, and victory.
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Conclusion
Guard your mind. Renew your mind. Fill your mind with God's Word. Take every thought captive and bring it into obedience to Christ.
The enemy may attack your mind, but he does not have to control your mind. Your thoughts belong under the authority of Jesus Christ.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, help me to guard my mind and reject every thought that does not agree with Your Word. Give me discernment, strength, and wisdom. Renew my mind and help me take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.
